How to Make a Payment Using Remita

Launched in 2005, Remita is a comprehensive payment solution for anyone and everyone in Africa. The platform lets you check all your bank balances, pay bills, easily transfer money, pay invoices, and much more.

Remita also allows business bodies to easily receive payments from their customers through nine different channels, including the Remita Mobile App and Website, Internet Banking, Debit/Credit Cards, Merchant’s Websites, Point of Sales, and more.

Is It Safe to Use Remita?

Remita boasts that its platform is chosen by millions of people and thousands of organisations. It’s even the default payment gateway that facilitates the Federal Government of Nigeria’s Treasury Single Account (TSA) – a unified structure of government bank accounts to consolidate all inflows from all agencies of government into a single account at the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Remita is also a secure platform with advanced security features such as a combination of hard token, soft token, biometric token, and propriety authentication protocols.

All these say nothing about the platform but good.

Now to the subject of this article: How to make a payment using Remita.

Making a payment using Remita is in two stages. The first stage is generating a Remita Retrieval Reference (RRR) – a unique code to make your payment. The second stage is using the RRR code to make the payment using your preferred payment method.

How to Generate a Remita Retrieval Reference (RRR)

To generate RRR to pay a Biller, follow the below procedure:

  1. Open remita.net in any web browser.
  2. Click on “Pay a Biller”.
  3. Enter the name of the MDA/Corporate inside the Who do you want to pay?
  4. Thereafter, select the Name of Service/Provider that relates to the payment from the dropdown.
  5. Select the Service/Purpose of which you’re making the payment from the next dropdown. If you don’t know, you’ll need to engage the intended beneficiary biller to ascertain the appropriate service type that best suits the intended remittance; and proceed with the rest of the steps in processing transactions on the platform.
  6. Click on Submit to generate the RRR.

If the form to make the payment is also displayed right on the same page, select your preferred payment method and proceed with the rest of the steps in processing the transaction.

To generate RRR to pay Federal Government or State TSA, follow the below procedure:

  1. Open remita.net in any web browser.
  2. Click on “Pay FGN’s and State TSA”.
  3. Enter the name of the MDA in the Name of MDA
  4. Thereafter, select the Name of Service/Provider that relates to the payment from the dropdown.
  5. Select the Service/Purpose of which you’re making the payment from the next dropdown. If you don’t know, you’ll need to engage the intended beneficiary biller to ascertain the appropriate service type that best suits the intended remittance; and proceed with the rest of the steps in processing transactions on the platform.
  6. Click on Proceed To Payment to generate the RRR.

To generate RRR to pay State TSA, follow the below procedure:

  1. Open remita.net in any web browser.
  2. Click on “Pay FGN’s and State TSA”.
  3. Select the state you want to pay.
  4. Enter the name of the MDA in the Name of MDA
  5. Thereafter, select the Name of Service/Provider that relates to the payment from the dropdown.
  6. Select the Service/Purpose of which you’re making the payment from the next dropdown. If you don’t know, you’ll need to engage the intended beneficiary biller to ascertain the appropriate service type that best suits the intended remittance; and proceed with the rest of the steps in processing transactions on the platform.
  7. Click on Proceed To Payment to generate the RRR.

Payment Methods

After generating a RRR code, you’ll be directed to select a payment method to complete your transaction.

Remita allows you to pay conveniently in different ways, including Internet Banking, Remita Mobile App, Remita, Cards or Wallets, and paying at a Bank Branch.

Internet Banking: This allows you make a payment via the internet banking system. The said amount is transferred directly from your bank account into the beneficiary account via the Remita powered transfer. What you need to do is select the “Pay with internet banking” option. Icons of banks that support the internet banking service are displayed; click on your bank’s name and proceed with the rest of the steps to complete the transaction.

Cards or Wallets: This option allows you pay using your ATM card or your e-Wallet. Select the “Pay with Cards or Wallets” option and select your preferred card or e-Wallet service from the dropdown. Proceed with the rest of the steps to complete your transaction.

Bank Branch: This option allows you pay at any bank branch. Simply print your invoice from your email; if you can’t find it, go back to www.remita.net, click on “Resend RRR or Invoice”, enter your RRR on the next page and the invoice will be sent to your registered email. Proceed to any bank branch with the invoice and complete the transaction.
