How to Activate or Deactivate DND Policy on Your MTN Line

The DND (Do-Not-Disturb) policy allows mobile network users opt out of receiving promotional messages from 3rd Party services (Bulk SMS, VAS promos, etc.)

On your MTN line, you can either decide to fully activate the DND policy and stop receiving all messages or partially activate the policy. To activate DND partially, you’ll select a particular type of message you’ll like to receive only.

In this article, you’ll learn how to activate, partially activate, or deactivate the DND policy on your MTN line.

How to Know Your MTN Line DND Policy Status

To know if the policy is currently active on your mobile line or not, simply do this:

  • Send STATUS to 2442

If you receive a reply like below, DND isn’t active on your MTN line:

DND is NOT active on your line. To get started, simply text HELP to 2442 for FREE.

However, if your reply is like any of the two below, the DND policy is active on your line:

The Full DND is now active on your line.

Or

The Partial DND is now active on your line.

How to Fully Activate the DND Policy on Your MTN Line

To stop receiving all messages from 3rd party services, do the following:

  • Send STOP to 2442

You should receive a reply like the one below afterwards:

Your request for FULL DND has been received and will be effective within 24hours.

Immediately or after a few hours, you should stop receiving messages from all 3rd party services.

How to Deactivate the DND Policy on Your MTN Line

To remove the DND policy effect on your mobile line and start receiving messages from all services, simply do this:

  • Send ALLOW to 2442

You should receive a reply from MTNN like the one below:

The Do-Not-Disturb service has been successfully deactivated for your number. Thank you.

After receiving the above message, you should now be able to receive messages almost immediately.

How to Partially Activate the DND Policy on Your MTN Line

When you partially activate the DND policy on your line, it’s only the type of message you opt-in for you’ll be able to receive. For example, if you opt-in for ‘Education’, you’ll only be receiving messages relating to education alone.

To opt-in to receive a type of message only, send any of the codes (numbers) listed below to 2442.

3 To receive Educational messages
4 To receive Health messages
5 To receive Consumer goods & Automobiles messages

10 To receive Information on new products or services messages

For example, sending ‘4’ to 2442 will opt you in to receive Health messages only.

After successfully activating the policy to receive a type of message only, you should get a reply from 2442 like below:

Your request for ’the service you opted-in for’ has been received and will be effective within 24hours.

Afterwards, you should only receive messages relating to the service you opted-in for.
